From 21 May 2015 to 26 September 2015

Photography and video meet ceramics.

Details

Five works made over the course of the last two years, three of which hitherto unseen, accompanied by an original video. The development of a creative process that combines different media, bringing ceramics into contact with photography and moving images, expanding into the exhibition space with power and sensitivity. Silvia Celeste Calcagno exhibits her work at the Officine Saffi gallery in Milan. The show is titled INTERNO 8 La Fleur Coupée, curated by Angela Madesani, running from 21 May to 15 September 2015.

The artist uses multiple means of expression, brought together into a unique work through a process of continuous addition. Silvia Celeste Calcagno is a performer, and she herself is the only person featured in her work. Her performances are documented photographically. She then transfers the photographs thus obtained onto small slabs of clay, using a special firing technique. The slabs are used to arrange groups of one-off pieces that can be interpreted as a sequence, as if a series of frames from a film, in which the differences between one piece and another are minimal.

Silvia Celeste Calcagno, who has already exhibited at Officine Saffi, in 2013 as a finalist in the Faenza Prize, transforms her own life into an act of creation, developing concepts that place the most intimate spheres of existence into contact with universal themes. For example, a simple change of address (Interno 8) leads to reflections on the concept of home, on the osmotic relationship with the place in which one lives, and on the tensions and contradictions of everyday life.
